Mixed berries: 1 cup (150 g; fresh or frozen; e.g., strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
Chia seeds: 2 tbsp
Maple syrup or agave syrup: 1-2 tsp (optional, adjust to taste)
Lemon juice: 1 tsp (optional, for brightness)
Cook the Berries:
Add the berries to a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Stir occasionally and mash the berries with a fork or potato masher as they soften.
Simmer the Mixture:
Allow the berries to simmer for 5-7 minutes until they break down and release their juices. Add a splash of water if the mixture becomes too thick.
Add Chia Seeds:
Remove the pan from heat and stir in the chia seeds. Mix well to ensure even distribution.
Sweeten and Flavor:
Add maple syrup or agave syrup (if using) and lemon juice for a touch of sweetness and brightness. Stir well.
Set the Jam:
Let the mixture cool for 10-15 minutes. The chia seeds will absorb the liquid and thicken the jam. Adjust consistency by adding a teaspoon of water if necessary.
Store:
Transfer the jam to a sterilized jar and refrigerate. It will keep for up to 1 week.
