Whole wheat flour: 1/2 cup (50 g)
Salt: 1/8 tsp (a pinch)
Water: Approx. 1/4 cup (to knead dough)
Optional: 1/4 tsp ajwain (carom seeds) or cumin seeds for added flavor
Prepare the Dough:
In a bowl, mix whole wheat flour and salt (add ajwain or cumin seeds if using).
Gradually add water while kneading to form a firm but smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Roll the Pooris:
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into small balls.
Flatten and roll each ball into a thin disc (approx. 4-5 inches in diameter). Use minimal flour for rolling.
Steam the Pooris:
Heat a steamer and place the rolled pooris on a greased steaming plate or parchment paper.
Steam for 3-4 minutes or until they puff slightly and are no longer doughy. Remove carefully and let cool slightly.
Air Fry the Pooris:
Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) for 3 minutes.
Arrange the steamed pooris in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Air fry for 3-4 minutes on one side, flip, and air fry for another 2-3 minutes or until they are golden and slightly crisp.
Serve:
Serve hot with potato curry, chana masala, or your favorite side dish for a delicious, oil-free meal!
